How to display only certain items (e.g., the most recent or a specific category)

Why filter the elements of a collection

Key points • Filtering allows you to precisely control which elements appear • Ideal for displaying a category, recent content, or a special selection • CMS filters improve the clarity, logic, and efficiency of your hotel website

Displaying only specific items from a CMS collection is essential for properly structuring your hotel website pages. Whether you want to showcase the latest offers, display a specific category of items, or highlight only certain content, CMS filters allow for precise, dynamic, and fully automated display.

To begin, go to the page that uses a Collection List. Select the Collection List Wrapper block to access its settings. This is where you will define the display filters according to your needs.

The filters work by directly using the fields in your collection: categories, dates, tags, booleans, numeric values, etc. If you want to display only items from a specific category, use a "Category" or "Type" field. In the filter settings, select the corresponding field, then choose the value you want to display.

To display only the most recent items, ensure your collection has a Date field (e.g., “Publish Date” or “Event Date”). Then, apply a descending sort based on this field so that the most recent items appear first. If you want to further limit the number of items, combine sorting with a display limit.

💡 Tip: To create themed sections (Exclusive Offers, Wellness Experiences, Local News), use a “Category” or “Tag” field and filter your Collection List accordingly. This allows you to build several different blocks from a single collection.

You can also filter items based on their featured status. If you have a "Featured" boolean field, you can filter the Collection List to display only the selected items. This is ideal for highlighting a premium room or a special offer.

When multiple filters are combined (e.g., category + upcoming date + featured), the Collection List will only display items that meet all criteria. Therefore, ensure your CMS data is complete and consistent to avoid missing items.

Once your filters are configured, preview the page to verify that the correct elements are displayed. Test different values in your collection to ensure consistent and dynamic behavior.

Conclusion

Filtering items within a CMS collection is a powerful feature for organizing your hotel content. By using category fields, dates, and Boolean or numeric fields, you precisely control what your visitors see and create clean, relevant, and professional navigation.
