Why isn't your Instagram widget displaying your latest posts on your hotel website?
Common causes and solutions for refreshing your feed
Key points:
- The Instagram feed can be cached or not refreshed on the LightWidget side.
- The access token may be expired or invalid.
- Meta permissions can block the synchronization of new content.
- A hidden post, a scheduled post, or a post from a Reel may not appear immediately.
Have you posted new photos on your Instagram account, but they're not yet showing up in the feed integrated into your hotel website? This discrepancy is common and easily fixed. Here are the main causes and how to update your widget.
1. The LightWidget cache has not yet been updated
By default, LightWidget uses a caching system to speed up feed loading on your site. This means that new posts may take up to 1 hour to appear.
💡 Tip: Log in to your LightWidget account and click “Refresh cache” to force an immediate update. Once the cache is cleared, reload your hotel website and check if your new posts are displayed.
2. The access token has expired.
If your widget displays an error message or no longer loads your recent posts, your Instagram access token has likely expired. To regenerate it:
- Log in to LightWidget.
- Open your Instagram widget.
- Click on Reconnect Instagram Account.
- Reconnect your Instagram business account.
- Save the changes and copy the new integration code if necessary.
💡 This instantly restores the connection between your account and the widget.
3. Meta permissions have been modified
If you recently changed your Instagram password, added an administrator, or modified your linked Facebook page, your Meta Business Suite permissions may have been reset. Go to Settings > Integrations > Apps & Websites, then:
- Remove LightWidget if present.
- Reconnect it to regain full access to your media.
This step restores synchronization and allows the feed to access your new posts.
4. Your new posts are not eligible for display
Some posts do not appear in the feed depending on the type of content:
- Reels or videos not published on the main grid
- Pinned posts, sometimes ignored by APIs
- Hidden or private posts: Make sure your new images are published on the main feed of your business account.
5. The widget's integration code is outdated.
If you've recently created a new widget or modified your Instagram account, your site might still be using an older LightWidget script. In that case:
- Copy the new code from LightWidget.
- Open your site in Webflow Designer.
- Replace the code in the Embed block with the new code.
- Click Publish to update the online version.
Conclusion
If your Instagram feed isn't showing your latest posts, it's almost always due to an outdated cache or an expired access token. Refreshing the widget and checking the meta permissions will easily restore the display of your most recent content.
